​About your teacher.

Manuela Pilz Photo Picture
Manuela Pilz was born in Berlin, Germany and then grew up in Sydney, Australia. Since then she has lived in the UK, Portugal and Spain. She completed her Fine Art Bachelor Degree at Sheffield Hallam University, where she studied painting and printmaking with Anne Grebby.  She also completed her teacher training at Greenwich Universtiy and taught English to International students which has greatly influenced her teaching style. Since then she has taught art in the UK, Portugal, Spain and Australia at university, primary and secondary school level.  In 2020 Manuela started her private artschool The Drawing Room on the Gold Coast and online and conducts weekend workshops as well as 5 day retreats in Queensland and Northern NSW. Manuela's newest endeavour is to create The Drawing Academy for Young Artists to give an opportunity to young serious aspiring artists to fully develop their drawing.  Her passion has always been drawing and painting the figure from life and portraiture. Today Manuela most of her time in Tasmania where she continues to do her portraiture but is now working on her landscape painting. She regularly visits family in Queensland in the winter and conducts winter workshops there.  

Her recent career highlights as an artist was winning the first prize for Portraiture at the Darcy Doyle Art Awards and receiving honourable mention for landscape; being a finalist for the Lethbridge 20,000 in 2019; winning the Watts Atelier (click for link) Master Skill Building Challenge in 2016 judged by James Gurney and studying at the Florence Academy in Italy under Jura Bedic, 
Taylor Scarlet Powell and Tanvi Pathare in 2017. Much time was spent studying at the Salisbury Atelier in Brisbane and in 2019 she attended an intensive month studying painting at Julian Ashton School of Art in Sydney . 2023 was spent studying pastels under Leoni Duff at The Brisbane Street Art School.
