About the course:
This course will work well for absolute beginners and for those looking to revisit foundational drawing skills. The focus this term will be drawing nature and wildlife.
Skills we will cover:
- how to draw leaves and petals that have flow and energy
- how to draw patterns and negative space between flowers and plants.
- sing graphite, charcoal, colour pencil or pastels to create monochrome studies of flora and fauna
- how to use line, shape, form, value and texture to create an expressive drawing
- how to vary line weight and how it creates flow, gesture, volume to a linear drawing with graphite or colour pencil
- how to be free and expressive with charcoal or a colour pastel stick.
Expect to:
- Sharpen your observational skills: Draw from drawings, photos and from life
- Refine your motor skills: Draw holding the pencil from several different angles and working on an easel or on a table to create different marks controlled or uncontrolled.
- Discover your creative interests: Learn to see the world with an artist's eye by looking at artwork from contemporary artists and those from the past.
- Unlock their creative potential.

About more advanced course:
How to Draw the Figure
This course is for the more experienced drawer who wants to work on advancing their drawing skills.
Expect to:
- Sharpen your observational skills: Learn to see the world with an artist's eye, capturing light, shadow, and form with precision or develop loose gestural drawing with expression.
- Revise or be introduced to different ways of looking at the figure. Methods of seeing such as blocking in, enveloping, gesture drawing or structural drawing.
- The course will be broken down into different parts of the body enabling you to focus on drawing parts and then finishing with the whole body. In depth study of the torso, arms and shoulders, hands, legs, feet and the head will be covered. Some anatomy will be discussed.
- We will be working mainly from photo reference, the drawings from artists of the past, and sculptures.
- Build a strong foundation for further artistic exploration
- Simply enjoy the meditative and rewarding process of drawing in the company of likeminded people.
- Has done several courses at the Drawing Room and is ready to hone their skills. and is considering joining a life drawing class.
